One of the most interesting forms of contemporary narrative is the genre we might call “flash fiction.” These short but effective stories—from six-words to one or two paragraphs—invite readers to engage more actively with the action and meaning of the piece. In this talk, I will discuss important examples of flash fiction, how they work, what strategies for reading we need to use, and invite students to write their own stories.
