Bordes, Laurent

Laurent Bordes obtained a Masters in Mathematics and Mechanics (MATMECA) at the University of Bordeaux in 1992. In 1996 he earned a Doctorate in Mathematics, under the supervision of Prof. Mikhail Stepanovitch Nikouline.

After earning his Doctorate, he was hired by the University of Bordeaux as temporary Associate Professor of teaching and research. In 1997 he was named professor of Mathematics and joined the University of Technology of Compiègne (UTC).

In 2006 he was named university professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Pau and the Adour Region (UPPA). He is a Member of the Laboratoire de Mathématiques et de leurs Applications de Pau [Laboratory of Mathematics and its Applications of Pau] (LMAP), Associate Member of the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique [National Institute of Information Technology and Automation Research] (UMR CNRS). His research focusses on duration modelling with missing data and semiparametric modelling for finished mixtures of distributions.

He has taught at Degree and Masters level at the University of Pau and the Adour Region, at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts, as well as teaching a Masters in Benin, within the framework of the European project.

After the election of Mohamed Amara as Rector of the UPPA in 2012, Laurent Bordes was elected University Vice-Chair of Research, a post he held until 2016. That year he became Chair of the Institut Pluridisciplinaire de Recherche Appliquée [Multidisciplinary Applied Research Institute] (IPRA), which is a multidisciplinary gathering of Mathematics, Engineering Sciences and Geosciences from five research units.

That same year, he was elected Delegate Vice-Chair of digital issues of the UPPA, as well as the community of universities and establishments of Aquitaine, where he heads a shared data project between all the higher education and research establishments in New Aquitaine region.

With the reorganisation of the UPPA in 2018, he took over the management of the new Collège Sciences et Technologies pour l'Energie et l'Environnement [College of Sciences and Technologies for Energy and the Environment] (STEE), which gathers together around 5,000 students from the old college of science and technology of the departments of Pau and Anglet, the École Nationale Supérieure en Génie des Technologies Industrielles [National Superior Engineering School of Industrial Technologies] (ENSGTI), the Institut Supérieur Aquitain du Bâtiment et des Travaux Publics [Higher Regional Institute for Construction and Public Works] (ISABTP), as well as both university technological institutes (IUT) of the Adour Region and Bayonne.

Laurent Bordes has been the Rector of the UPPA since 1 January 2021.
