Cano Suñén, Nuria

Nuria Cano (Zaragoza, 1975) holds a BA in Economic and Business Sciences from the University of Zaragoza (1998). After several years working as an economist on rural development, she received her BA in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of the Basque Country (2004), where she also received a pre-doctoral grant from the Basque Government and completed her PhD in Social Anthropology (2011).

In her thesis “Perspectives and tensions in the landscapes of the Carranza Valley” there is a combination of economy, rural development and anthropology. Her interdisciplinarity has also been built with stays and research projects in other Departments: The City University of New York (Department of Environmental Psychology), Manchester Metropolitan University (Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences), Pablo de Olavide University (Department of Geography, History and Philosophy), University of Zaragoza (Department of Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering area) and School of Fine Arts of the University of the Basque Country (Department of Sculpting).

She has given lectures on anthropology applied to social intervention within the Social Work Degree (Social Anthropology department) of the Public University of Navarra, where she has been a member of the “Lera-Ikergunea Culture and Development” research group. She is currently working in the Spanish inter-university project “The cultural landscapes of the World Heritage List” (Atlantic Spain section).

Nuria Cano was a young corresponding member of JAKIUNDE from November 2016 to December 2020.
