Garrido Martínez, José Antonio

José Antonio Garrido Martínez (1940, Santander) graduated in Industrial Engineering at the Higher Technical School of Engineers in Bilbao. He holds a doctorate in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and graduated from IESE Business School's Senior Management Programme. He is professor extraordinarius at Deusto University.

Professor Garrido has published over 50 articles in journals, taken part in national and international conferences and worked on several projects for Iberduero and Iberdrola.

José Antonio Garrido has been vice-president of IBERDROLA and chairman of GAMESA. He is currently the chairman of the Association for the Revitalisation of Metropolitan Bilbao (Bilbao Metropoli-30), chairman of the Altuna Foundation and vice-chairman of the Encuentro Foundation, member of the COTEC Foundation's Board of Trustees, full member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Engineering, advisor to GTD (Software Engineering Co.) and former advisor to MAPFRE Norte and MAPFRE Enterprises, and the AMESA Group.

José Antonio Garrido is honorary consul in Bilbao, member of the Spanish Section of the Club of Rome and a full member of The Royal Basque Society of Friends of the Country.

He has received the Basque-Press Award, the Puig Adam Medal (Foundation for the Promotion of Innovation), the Deusto University Gold Medal, and is an Honorary Doctor of the University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU.
