Biologist
Iñigo Olalde Marquínez (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1987) holds a degree in Biology from the University of Navarra and a Doctorate in Paleogenomics (2016) from Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He participated in post-doctoral research as part of the group of Dr. David Reich at Harvard University and was La Caixa Junior Leader at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC-UPF). In 2021 he joined the University of the Basque Country as Ramón y Cajal Researcher and Ikerbasque Research Fellow.
His lines of research focus on the recovery and analysis of DNA from ancient human remains to study demographic changes taking place in Europe during the Holocene, as well as the evolution of social organisation of human societies in the past.
His research has been published in high impact international journals, including 4 articles in Nature and Science as first author. He also works as a reviewer for publications such as Nature and PLOS One and has taken part in international conferences as a guest speaker.
He regularly collaborates with the science communication programme La Mecánica del Caracol on EITB and has given numerous dissemination talks and summer courses.
